Reflection
The CGEA is a group of workers that represent the City of Corona everyday of their lives. Workers from all facets of city business are part of the association from street maintenance crews and water operators, to city engineers and customer service representatives. The CGEA represents a variety of people that work for the great City of Corona. Among the workers, a board of representatives are elected to represent the association and deal with the public and management on a daily basis. One of the most important duties of the CGEA President, Vice President, and other board members is to maintain a working environment that is not only fair to the workers it represents but also promotes unity with in the different departments, different associations and with management. One way this is accomplished is through the Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, which is a written agreement that is drafted that defines all pertinent information that relate to working at the City of Corona. All aspects of how the worker is to be treated, benefits, and other working information are all discussed and laid out in the MOU. The MOU is usually written to cover a two year period but as I found out the agreement is a "living document" that can be re-opened for discussion at any time. The President and Vice President need to be stern but fair when dealing with management and let them know that they are willing to work with them but also need to be sure the needs of the association are being met. What I would like to still learn from the CGEA is the negotiating process. It would be interesting to be in a negotiating meeting with management and see the chess game that goes on while bargaining for benefits and money. The City of Corona has many workers that work and represent the City with a great deal of dignity and respect. The CGEA is a prime example of those workers and is shown in everything that they do.
